Project Summary

Project Background

Findings from the multi-target antimalarial from medicinal plants research group (MAPReG) project titled “Developing an alternate anti-malarial from medicinal plants: Exemplifying the multi-target concept in malaria drug discovery,” include the ff:

  1. Strong anti-malarial activity as deduced from the IC50 values <20 µg/ml has been observed for 9 out of 27 fractions from the Carapa procera,  Alchornea cordifolia and Milletia zechiana
  2. Acute and sub-acute toxicity assessment so far done for two of the fractions shows a good safety profile.
  3. Demonstration that fractions of Carapa procera and Alchornea cordifolia may be safe immunomodulators that can treat malaria
